This tessellation art came about by accident. My landlord had some houseguests-- a cultural anthropologist & an astrophysicist-- who wove the "fish" you see here from long blades of grass or palmtree leaves. If you'd like to make some yourself, here are instructions: YouTube video, written lesson.
They left the woven Thai fish toys, each about five inches / 10cm long, on the ground & forgot about them. I passed by, and thought to myself, "Those would tessellate nicely if their fins were a little longer." So I photographed them, photoshopped their little fins, & let them swim around here for your enjoyment.
